Baseball.

What a lot of you may not know about me is that I play baseball for my high school’s varsity team and I’m captain this year.  We have been practicing in the gym once a week for the past few months just throwing, taking grounders and hitting in the batting cage.  Our practices our limited by the lack of space and by the fact that there isn’t a whole lot we can do other than play catch and take grounders.  I like it though.

I’m very excited for this upcoming season I think our team is going to be the best it has been in the four years I’ve been at Henry and I think that we have a chance at taking the city conference.  Our school has had two teams for as long as I have been in the program so our total turnout is usually between 25-35 guys. This year is unique because we have 11 seniors (much more than usual, last year we had 3) and a lot of potential from our younger players as well.  Varsity tryouts this year are going to be intense and I can’t say I know how things will play out.  Honestly, there might be sophomores and juniors starting over seniors at some positions despite the large senior squad we have.  I see this as a definite positive thing for our team because I think healthy competition helps us improve as individuals and as a team but some seniors might be disappointed when they don’t get the playing time they think they deserve.  At this point though, if we want to compete, we have to play to win and that means that not everyone can play every game.  That’s just my opinion.

Strategies aside, I think this year is going to be awesome.  I have high hopes for this team and I really think we have a chance to move up in the conference.  And what’s better than playing the your favorite game on a beautiful field with great players?  You can’t lose.  Peace.
