I Can’t Stop Listening To: DeVotchka

The first song I heard from this band was on one of the Live albums from MPR’s The Current.  The song was “Queen of the Surface Streets” and I loved it.  Later I picked up their album “How It Ends” and I haven’t looked back.  These guys are really amazing.  There are four people in the band from Denver, Colorado.  I really like the lead singer’s voice along with the folky sound that they have.  This is one group that would probably be on my top 5 bands to see live, they are very talanted and have a great sound.  And for those wondering where the name came from, it’s from A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess.  It’s the Nadsat word for “little girl.”  Check them out.  Peace.

“I don’t mind the mental atrophy
‘Cause when the lids come down, you’re all I see
You’re like a lovely hallucination
You get me through my current occupation”
