A Crab Fishing Boat.

I have some friends who tell me that college sucks.  As a naive high school senior who has visions of an amazing community for acadmic, artisitic, and social experiences, I push these ideas away.  College will be great I imagine and I know there are people who do truly love thier college expereince.  However, I know people who went to the college of their choice and were totally disenchanted with what was offered.  While applying to schools I feel myself thinking about all these differing opinions and I think: maybe this won’t be so great after all.

I’m going to go to college and I’m going to stay optimistic about my experience wherever I end up.  However, I have respect for the person who says: I’m going to go work for a king crab fishing boat off the coast of Alaska for a few years.  Maybe that’s not for me but I can respect someone who makes that decision.  Know what I mean?  I don’t like the idea of not growing intellectually/academically but I think that there is an illusion that this has to be done at a university level.  It reminds me of the Animal Collective song “College.”  Peace.
