Anarchists.
Outside the RNC I had the opportunity to talk to a few individuals who were chained together and were blocking an exit ramp. I was working on a story for the ThreeSixty online newspaper about how the police handled the protesters and it was really interesting to talk to these peaceful yet disruptive protesters. This week, I noticed a quote in my history teacher’s classroom from Thomas Jefferson that read: “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.” Again, this got me thinking. Although I may not understand the reasoning behind anarchist violence and theories, I respect them for being so passionate about an idea that they would take those steps to attain it. Is this not what is written in the Declaration of Independence?
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
I don’t mean to say that this is something that is necessary at this point in time, but like I said I respect those who are that passionate about anything. If there are any people who could describe to me the reasoning behind such anarchist groups I would be very interested to hear such ideas. Why do they do it?
