An excellent evening.

Today some friends and I celebrated my roommate’s birthday by going out to eat and seeing a movie.  We didn’t have a plan for dinner as far as where we wanted to go, just knowing that we’d find something once we got down to the commons area.  It just so happened that my roommate decided to go to this place called, creatively enough, Asia Cuisine.  It was a Japanese/Korean restaurant that looked a little sketchy from the outside but upon entering warmed up and ended up having a very nice atmosphere with brick walls and simple decor.  I had never had Korean food before and I was excited to try kimchi for the first time.  I ordered it and it came along with a very generous portion of this spicy pork dish that was amazing.  It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while and this place might now rival Taste of Thai as my new favorite restaurant in town.

We followed that with a trip to the movie theater to see A Serious Man, a film I had been wanting to see for a long time.  The Coen brothers hold a special place in my heart and this film was even more appealing to my state pride by being set in a suburb of Minneapolis where the filmmaking brothers grew up.  I really liked it.  I thought the actor that played the main character was splendid for the part and I loved the subtle, dry, dark humor in this retelling of the story of Job (which is to say it was in no way an uplifting comedy, but very witty nonetheless).  All in all, this was a great evening to make up for the not so good weekend I had.  Peace.
