A Tear Shed For The Twins.
The Minnesota Twins lost this evening to the Chicago White Sox.  It was a sad loss.  They’ve had a fairly good year and it all came down to this tie-breaking game to see who would make the playoffs.  They lost 1-0.  It’s sad to see your favorite team go down like that and what makes it even worse is the fact that it was to one of my least favorite teams. So now my team is the Tampa...

College Fair.
I guess the largest college fair in the country is coming to town this week, to the Minneapolis Convention Center.  I figure I should probably go, I have several schools that I’m already applying to but it can’t hurt to take another look.  I’ve been thinking about different options for myself for college.  I want to apply to at least one school in Canada, probably York U near...

New Music.
There are some new cds that have come out that I need to pick up.  It sucks though because I don’t have a job and I don’t want to go spending money on music (yes, I still do that) but will.  I’m not sure how long it will before I give in to the temptation that is the awesome local music store: The Electric Fetus, in Minneapolis.  Two albums I’ll probably end up buying are: ...

A Graphic Novel.
I started reading my first graphic novel the other day.  I’m borrowing “Watchmen”  from a friend of mine because I’ve heard good things about it and I needed something to read.  I know they’re making it into a movie, I saw the trailer before The Dark Knight.  I’m only about a chapter in so I have little bases for criticism.  I’ve never been one to read...

A Crab Fishing Boat.
I have some friends who tell me that college sucks.  As a naive high school senior who has visions of an amazing community for acadmic, artisitic, and social experiences, I push these ideas away.  College will be great I imagine and I know there are people who do truly love thier college expereince.  However, I know people who went to the college of their choice and were totally disenchanted with...

Yesterday’s mental crash was cured by my high school’s football game, in which we lost miserably (but was still fun to attend) and a good night’s sleep.  Today was devoted to working on a history project covering the 19th century.  Yes, the whole thing.  That went well, we’re almost finished.  My Minnesota Twins lost to Tampa again but the White Sox lost as well so it...

Totally done with this week.
I don’t know what it is but I am totally fried.  I have had a full week of classes and during sixth hour today I was slamming my head against my books because of the total lack of brain power to do chemistry.  I’m usually not like that and I will at least have some power to pay attention or do something productive.  Not today.  After two painfully long hours at the end of the day, I...

I can't stop listening to: Wolf Parade
I first saw these guys with my cousin when they opened for the Arcade Fire at First Av. a few years ago in Minneapolis.  I didn’t know anything about them at the time but I liked what I heard and then picked up their album, which at the time was Apologies To The Queen Mary.  I really like this album a lot and I have listened to it extensively for the past few years.  Listeners may notice a...

Thanks.
Hey, I’d like to thank the fine ladies and gentlemen at Tumblr for selecting me as one of their “Staff Picks.”  I hope to keep this interesting enough so I can stay there.  For first time visitors, if you have the time, check out this little documentary (in 2 parts, 2nd one here) that I did last winter.  I hope you enjoy it, it was my first attempt at anything of the sort, and I...

Anarchists.
Outside the RNC I had the opportunity to talk to a few individuals who were chained together and were blocking an exit ramp.  I was working on a story for the ThreeSixty online newspaper about how the police handled the protesters and it was really interesting to talk to these peaceful yet disruptive protesters.  This week, I noticed a quote in my history teacher’s classroom from Thomas...

Life without Internet.
We just switched internet providers this weekend and I had a good 48 hours with no internet access.  I have to say, it’s a weird feeling.  Not having access to my email, blog, and facebook was unsettling.  I didn’t have any withdrawal symptoms or anything, it’s just that it was weird not having access to these things that have become so normal in my life.  I’m sure that, if...

Picnik.
So there is this free photo editing program that my friend Carly told me about.  It’s pretty awesome.  I did one photo that I put on my facebook but I’ll put it up here as well.  It’s the last picture I put up, but I did some editing to it so I think it looks kinda cool.  I’ve been looking for a place where I can edit photos but I don’t really want to pay for a...

College.
So I’m beginning the tedious process of applying to college.  I’ve got people writing me letters of recommendation, I have taken the ACT and the SAT and I’ve chosen a few colleges to apply to.  Now comes the process of putting together the applications.  I’ve started filling out the Common Application which covers many private and a few public colleges, mostly out of...

I can't stop listening to: The Small Cities
These guys are from St. Paul and they’re pretty awesome.  I’ve got their ep that has four songs on it but they’re all great.  It starts off with this nice slow melodic tune called “This City.”  The song “Trust Me, I Am Not A Stalker” starts off with this cool bass line and is a great song as well.  I like this band a lot.  They’ve got great lyrics...

Man on Wire.
Hello all, I just returned from the new documentary Man on Wire, playing down at the Lagoon in Minneapolis.  I liked it a lot.  It’s about this guy who plans to run a tight-rope between the two World Trade Center towers in the 70’s and walk across.  It’s about his planning and the friends who help him and the obsession he has with this feat.  They have some really amazing footage...

I can't stop listening to: The Dodos
I first heard this band when I got the song “Fools” off of their album Visiter from The Current Song of the Day Podcast.  Then I picked up that album and have been listening ever since.  This duo out of San Francisco, CA have a really cool sound.  Indie rock with some great lyrics.  I know that could describe 90% of the music I listen to but, just trust me on this one.  I really like...
